Frequently asked questions of WAMITAB

Q1: How do I cope with assessment anomalies within the COTC scheme?

A1: If you contact WAMITAB at info.admin@wamitab.org.uk we can send you the COTC Standards Anomalies List/EV Directives, which will hopefully answer any queries you may have.

Q2: How do I apply for a Certificate of Technical Competence?

A2: You should contact a WAMITAB assessment centre, see the centres page on this web site, who will provide you with advice on how to proceed with your application. Alternatively WAMITAB staff will be able to provide you with up to date information and guidance.

Q3: I have changed by address/surname. How do I amend my contact details?

A3: Write in to WAMITAB detailing the changes required. WAMITAB cannot accept verbal notification of changes.

Q4: When do I need to register with WAMITAB?

A4: To avoid any unnecessary delays WAMITAB asks that candidates register with WAMITAB in good time, preferably at the start of the S/NVQ, and certainly before the S/NVQ has been achieved.

Q5: Once I have registered with WAMITAB what happens if I need to change the type of COTC I am working towards?

A5: It is often the case that the S/NVQ finally achieved is different to the original COTC registered with WAMITAB. This may be because the waste management license has changed, the Agency require a different COTC or the candidate may change jobs/site etc. To avoid any delays in issuing the COTC if you need to change awards at any time during the assessment/verification process please inform WAMITAB in writing so that we can change your COTC registration.

Q6: Where can I find the contact details of my nearest Assessment Centre?

A6: Click on the Centres button on the left

Q7: I need to know which type and level of COTC to apply for

A7: WAMITAB is not a statutory body and therefore cannot give this advice. You need to contact your local Environment Agency (EA) Regulation Officer (in England), or Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) officer (in Scotland), who will advise you on the type of COTC to apply for.

Q8: I don't want to continue with my application and want to transfer to a colleague. Is this possible?

A8: A COTC is made in the name of an individual and cannot be transferred to another individual. Typically, the most appropriate way forward is for the candidate to make a fresh COTC application. In any event write to WAMITAB with the information.

Q9: I registered a few years ago and understand that WAMITAB has printed revised standards since I registered. How do I obtain a copy?

A9: You will need to contact WAMITAB to obtain a 'request to change' slip, in order to change over to the revised award. On receipt of the signed request to change slip, your award type will be changed on our database to the revised award code, and revised standards dispatched to you.

Q10: As a representative of the Environment Agency, I need to know whether a particular site manager has registered with you.

A10: As WAMITAB is registered under the Data Protection Act, we require all such requests in writing, so that they can be placed on the file of the candidate concerned. You will need to specify the candidate's name, company name and address, and what information you require on a fax, and we will investigate the query and respond by fax as soon as possible
