CONTINUING COMPETENCE
Candidates are reminded that if they require a reader to help with reading/IT difficulties there is a 4 week delay in arranging the reader. Candidates should bear this in mind when booking a test to comply with the 29 February deadline.

Time is Running Out!
The Continuing Competence deadline is approaching
As you know the deadline for the initial Continuing Competence period was extended to 29 February 2012; the extension was intended to smooth out the tests over the 12 month period to ensure that everyone could book the time/location of their choice.
We are now approximately 8 months away from the 29 February 2012 deadline and a significant number of people have still not come forward to book/take their test.
If you do not book your test in good time you may not get the time/location which is most convenient to you or, worse still, you may not be able to book and take the test before the deadline expires!

Introduction
In England and Wales only CIWM and WAMITAB's Operator Competence Scheme (the Scheme) has a requirement for individuals to keep their competence up to date. Therefore all competent persons falling within the Scheme will be required to demonstrate ‘Continuing Competence’ and this will be appropriate to the level of risk posed by the facility so that it remains proportional.
The type of facility, and whether this was previously exempt or not, will determine how a person demonstrates they have maintained their competence. This section of the web site is divided and accessed using the sub-navigation buttons on the right hand side.
If you know which test you need to take go to Book Test.
• FAQs: before contacting WAMITAB please read this section carefully as it will answer many of your questions about the test;
• All waste activities: this section provides information on the different tests which are available depending on the competence you wish to maintain;
• Previous Exemptions: this section refers to individuals who held a management role in relation to an exempt activity which now requires a permit; and
• CIWM/WAMITAB Tutorial: if you need to take a Continuing Competence test this tutorial explains how the test works and what you will see when you get to the test centre proper. You will be asked again to take the tutorial at the beginning of your actual test to reinforce your understanding of how the test operates.
• Which Test? This provides information on which option(s) to select and the syllabus for each option. It also provides Information, Advice and Guidance to help people prepare for the test.
